Owner and residential designer Wes Dutka holds a diploma in Architectural Technology and brings more than 30 years of residential design experience to each project.
Wes moved to the Okanagan in 1992 and has called the area home ever since. Over the years, he has built his residential design practice working directly with homeowners and builders throughout the region, while establishing strong roots in the community.
Designs By Dutka offers a personal, hands-on approach to residential design. Clients work directly with Wes throughout the entire process—from the initial site meeting and development of preliminary floor plans through exterior design, 3D visualization and the preparation of the final working drawings.
Whether designing a new custom home or reworking an existing home through a renovation or addition, each project begins with understanding the client, the property and what the home needs to accomplish. Preliminary floor plans are developed and refined with the client before moving on to the exterior design. Three-dimensional exterior images allow clients to see and further develop the character of their home before the design is finalized.
Once the floor plans and exterior have been approved, the project moves into the preparation of detailed construction drawings. Resolving the major design decisions first keeps the process clear, collaborative and efficient.
More than three decades of designing homes in the Okanagan have given Wes extensive experience with the varied properties, building conditions and residential styles found throughout the region. That experience continues to shape an approach to design that balances architectural character, comfortable living and practical construction.
Earlier in his career, Wes also worked for a residential plan company where he designed homes, prepared complete sets of working drawings for a number of its designs, and prepared presentation floor plans for publication. The company produced its own Canadian home-plan book and later expanded into online plan distribution.
An evolving part of the practice
The DBD Collection
Building on that earlier experience, Wes is also developing the DBD Collection, a growing selection of stock house plans combining selected designs from his residential work with new designs created for the collection.
Custom homes, renovations and additions remain at the heart of Designs By Dutka, with the DBD Collection representing another part of the practice as it continues to develop.
